Description
A fine example of the much-admired W211 E-Class, presented in excellent condition for its age and mileage and used regularly, as a Mercedes should be. Finished in grey metallic, this is an honest, well-sorted E200 Kompressor Avantgarde Automatic that has clearly benefited from conscientious ownership. Importantly, it is ULEZ compliant.
The car has been meticulously maintained by its most recent keeper, with routine servicing carried out on time and the mileage-related items attended to as required. Engine oil has been changed every six months, and any minor faults have been dealt with promptly to keep the car driving as it should—quiet, smooth and reassuringly solid, with the effortless manner that makes these cars such superb long-distance companions.
Highlights and recent work include:
• 77, 500 miles
• 4 owners including the current (the last two within the same household)
• Timing chain and rocker/ valve cover gasket replaced (valuable preventative maintenance)
• Extensive front suspension refresh: front shock absorbers, upper and lower ball joints, right-side control arms and stabiliser link replaced — resulting in a tight, composed drive
• Android multimedia system installed, with Apple CarPlay, hands-free calling and a rear-view camera
• Supercharger/ compressor bearing oil replaced
MOT to October 2026. Previous advisories noted corrosion to the rear lower control arms; these have since been treated to help prevent further corrosion.
Overall, a well-presented, properly maintained Avantgarde that’s ready to be enjoyed immediately—equally suitable as a refined daily car or a modern classic to keep and cherish. Why you’ll love it / what makes it stand out
I bought this E200 Kompressor in April 2023 because I wanted to experience a proper Mercedes E-Class for myself—specifically the W211, which has a well-earned reputation for genuine German engineering, comfort and refinement. I’ve always admired the way these cars cover distance: quiet at speed, reassuringly solid, and engineered with a sense of purpose that’s becoming increasingly rare.
A big part of the appeal for me was that this is from the last era of E-Class where the mechanical package still feels wonderfully straightforward and long-term ownership-friendly. The M271 Kompressor engine is a proven unit, and I particularly liked the combination of supercharged petrol character with traditional port injection, which tends to suit age and mileage well. In other words, it’s a car chosen to be kept, not just “got through”.
As an experienced mechanic, I went into ownership with open eyes: I wanted a car I could understand, maintain properly, and keep “right” rather than simply run. That approach is what makes this example stand out. It hasn’t been treated as a disposable commuter—small issues were addressed promptly and preventative work was done where it mattered, so it drives the way an E-Class should.
My favourite thing about the car is the effortless, unflustered feel: the smooth automatic gearbox, the relaxed cruising ability, and the sense of quality you notice every time you shut the door and set off. It’s a modern classic that’s still perfectly happy doing daily duties—especially being ULEZ compliant—while offering the character and integrity that collectors appreciate.
