Description
I consider the car to be in good overall condition. It has a host of genuine AC Schnitzer extras, including wheels, pedals and mirrors that I think were fitted from new.
While in my ownership, it has had new shock absorbers and springs, new wishbones and drop links etc. It has had brake discs and pads. It has a resonated stainless Scorpion exhaust and genuine manual convertible roof. When we bought it, the electric roof didn’t work, so we bought another E36 with a manual roof and swapped the roof over.
Last year when I was taking it to Mot, I thought the differential was noisy and so we upgraded the differential with a reconditioned one from Gear Lab, including a receipt for £1500. The car has definitely had paint in the past, but the only thing we have had painted was the hardtop, but you can see a colour discrepancy on the rear o/ s, so I believe it has been painted there.
It has an upgraded ‘purple tag’ steering rack and new track rod ends. We have replaced the vanos filter and it has been regularly serviced. The alloy wheels have been refurbished and tyres are as new. The steering wheel has been recovered by Royal Steering Wheels.
There is a large history file, including most, if not all past mot’s. It spends all its time lately on a carpeted floor in a garage with my other classic cars. A truly iconic sports car from the 90’s, in Estoril blue and full black leather interior. I bought the car 10 years ago for my wife to use in summer months, but she only used it for one summer when she worked locally and the weather allowed. I have always loved what I consider modern classic BM’s and we are fortunate to own a couple of others.
We used to go to car shows and meets together, my wife would drive the E36 and I would drive the E39, now though if we go to a car show we just travel in the one car. This little car just isn’t getting used and in the whole time we have owned it, I think we have driven only maybe around 2k miles.
A change in our personal circumstances has meant we are going to sell this car, though it’s great fun whenever I do take it out for a spin. I am not concerned if it sells or not, the value of these classic BMW’s is only going one way and as a bonus, there is no capital gains tax on a classic car.
