The Chrysler 300 series was introduced in 1955 and was referred to as the "letter series". Initially, these cars were intended to represent a fledgling offering of performance-oriented vehicles. The earliest of the series was the 300C equipped with a 300 horsepower hemi engine and a coupe body style, represented by the "C". The 1955 300 C series Chrysler sold 1, 725 units and maintained its high-performance coupe status through 1962. Thereafter, Chrysler dropped the "C" and added additional body styles and engine options to their 300 series lineup.
