Description
A rare opportunity to become the next custodian of a genuine replica 50 MPH Sports model in excellent condition.
BP 9346 was first registered as a Tourer on 3rd March 1924. Little is known of its earlier history although there is a continuation log book covering the period 1932- 1937 which indicates that the car was repainted twice during that period.
The car was recreated as a Sports Tourer in the early 1990’s by the late John Wilcox, who was very keen on originality, and the car reflects his enthusiasm in this respect . It appears to have all the correct components and the body was an exact copy of one of the original cars.
The main differences from the standard tourer, apart from the distinctive tail end, are the slightly raked steering column, lowered dashboard and oyster shell type wings.
Although at first glance the sports windscreen is similar to that on the Chummy the top portion of each pillar together with the top windscreen is removable which helped make the car go faster.
In 2011 the car competed in and won a first class award in the VSCC Loton Park hill climb.
A new battery has recently been fitted and the dynamo and magneto have received attention.
Offered for sale due to downsizing of collection and comes with a few spares and a comprehensive file of correspondence, copy articles etc.
If you are looking to acquire a sporting Austin Seven this could be a tempting alternative to the more frequently seen replica Ulster models.
Space in the cockpit may be an issue for some drivers but it could be eminently suitable for the agile longer legged pilot (current custodian is 6ft 2in tall.)
