Mind you, this car is NOT restored, it is not perfect, but much better than average and, while on sale, we continue upgrading little detailles.
The bad:
- The liner (on the roof) is loose in some spots.
- Rear seat has a rip in the back.
- The new overhauled engine has a sound due to 2 years of none use
only moved in and out once or twice a month. I was told it disappears while in frequent use.
- Recaro seats have a slightly different color to the rest of the leather due to sun influence on the older parts.
- The varnish (1 of the 12 layers, not the wood) on the steering wheel has a crack.
As far as I remember, nothing else to mention. History:
Originally from California, the car became part of my collection of Mercedes V8 Classics as a classical 400E.
Due to sun-damage (varnish pealed off) I had it repainted, but since
I had to invest, I decided to upgrade it to the nice looking AMG body.
Since they were still working on it, when we moved to Spain 3 years ago, it was the only one that stayed in Belgium. The idea was to use it when visiting Belgium, but we spend too little time there to have it cost effective.
Since my ownership about 7 years ago, a lot has been done and improved to the 400E and the documents I have, come with the car.
Less and less 400E V8 are on the market as they sell fast, thanks to the prices of the 500E and E500 that are now over 50. 000,- Euros in similar condition.
The driving experience of this W124 with V8 engine (all Mercedes production) is incomparable with the other W124.
The 400E has most of the options like the S-class as standard edition.
