Historical elements
During restoration, several layers of paint were discovered which helped reveal part of the vehicle’s history.
The Jeep appears to have been stationed in Belgium within an Australian unit, before later serving with the French Air Force and subsequently the French Gendarmerie.
A French Air Force repair plate dated January 3rd 1955 remains present on the vehicle.
The floor also retains reinforcement plates and mounting points for a WWII machine-gun pedestal behind the passenger seats.
During the paint removal process, a small yellow kangaroo painted on the fuel tank was discovered.
Although this marking disappeared during restoration work, it may correspond to a former unit marking, which could be consistent with service within an Australian unit.
