Description
1930 Austin Seven Mulliner Sports – an original and rare opportunity
A rare chance to acquire one of the most elegant fabric-bodied Austin Sevens in existence. This 1930 Mulliner Sports left the Longbridge factory as a rolling chassis before being bodied by Mulliners of Bordesley Green. First registered in Hereford, it incredibly retains its original registration.
Provenance & History
I have been the proud custodian for 18 years, following a long-term ownership dating back to the late 1950s. Extensive research has been undertaken to ensure historical accuracy throughout the restoration process. Crucially, this is perhaps the only surviving Mulliner Sports with its original tail intact—a part almost always lost or replaced on these "tailed" Sevens.
Current Status & Completed Works
The car is a partially restored project with the "heavy lifting" already completed to a high standard:
Chassis & Running Gear: Original 6'3" chassis fully restored. Both front and rear axles fully refurbished.
Engine: Original unit, fully rebuilt and currently zero-miles (never started/ run in).
Wheels: Four original scripted hubs rebuilt with new rims and spokes.
Bodywork: Timber restoration is underway. Features the original Vee-shaped windscreen, correct wings, side louvered valances, dumb iron covers, and the original radiator surround.
Components: Includes original instruments, R47 headlights, original hood frame, and the steering wheel which has been professionally restored.
What’s Missing?
To complete this prettiest of Sevens, the new owner will only need to source seats and a single cranked door hinge.
The Appeal
With only approximately 12 known to exist, the Mulliner Sports is rarer than the Austin 7 Speedy. In appearance and spirit, it is remarkably similar to the MG M-Type, offering that iconic pointed tail sporting silhouette. However, being an Austin Seven, it is lighter and more nimble than most, making it incredibly spirited and a pure joy to drive.
