Description

For sale is my 1935 Austin 7 APD or high frame Opal. It’s a 2 seater open top tourer, the last of the 7s to retain the traditional grill shell. It’s a really good useable car, with some nice performance upgrades, on the tidier end of oily-rag condition.

I bought the car about 2 years ago, it had been off the road many years and was in need of extensive recommissioning. Over the course of a year it had a complete mechanical restoration, stripped to a bare chassis and every single bearing, bushing or other mechanical component was cleaned, inspected and replaced as necessary. This included refreshing the engine, gearbox, rear axle and torque tube, hubs, brakes suspension and steering etc! I have a big pile of receipts for all the parts I bought.

As mentioned, it does have a few performance parts. The cylinder block has been ported, it has a high compression 1937 cylinder head, 1 1/ 4” SU carb with custom ground needle, custom intake and exhaust manifold, full exhaust system and 3/ 4” radius sports cam followers. It pulls much stronger than it did when standard! The original head, carbs, manifolds, cam followers and exhaust will come with the car along with various other spare bits and bobs including a spare pair of 17” wheels.

In other modifications it has an A7 Components upgraded steering arm, Bodenex front brake cable conversion and it’s sat on 17” wheels with 4. 5x17” tyres & tubes that were new last year and have only done a few hundred miles.

The body is in overall really good condition, having been repainted by a previous owner while it was off the road. The bonnet I believe is in the original paint still and has much more patina and wear. The wings look to have been repainted at some point, but the paint is flakey and chipped in placed.

Inside it’s pretty bare bones. There’s rubber matting on the floor, some simple door cards and a pair of seats! Some of the door trims and other small details are missing. The roof is old but functional, with no rips tears or holes. I have the frames for the side windows, but no material for them.

So it’s a good solid car, ready to drive away with a bit of a lived in feel to it. A driver not a polisher! Please feel free to contact me to discuss anything about the car, I’m happy to get extra pictures or info.

There’s a walk around and cold start video on YouTube, message me for a link.
