This lovely Rover P4 was first registered on 1st February 1962. It received it's first lubrication service about 11 weeks later with 1068 miles at Logdon's Garage Royston Herts and then it's first full service in June of that year at Crabtree and Nicol in Sheffield. That garage serviced the car regularly until 30, 000 miles was reached in 1966.
The history is then silent until the car was sold by Ruggs of Woodford E18 in August 1975 for £425. 00. An AA inspection report details the condition at that time.
I understand from the gentleman I bought it from that it was his neighbour's car that he had long coveted and it was bought sometime in the late 1980's.
It was then subject to a major body off restoration in the early 1990's, the work being entrusted to Ely Service who were (and still are) one of the foremost experts in P4, P5 and P6 Rovers. I have full receipts and some pictorial evidence for the restoration totalling some £17, 500 spread over 18-24 months.
Despite the restoration being over 30 years ago, it has stood the test of time remarkably well. The paintwork still has a deep shine to the Mid-Blue paintwork, the chrome is still unaffected by rust (though the boot handle has pitted a little. The interior is a lovely place to be though the radio signal isn’t that clear compared to today’s equipment. There is a small crack to the paint on one rear door but that’s is it. No rust that I can see and it polishes up a treat. Including the restoration cost, I have bills for over £25, 000!!
I bought the car in June 2019 from the third owner (the one who had all the work done on the car). Just before he sold it to me he changed the reg no from 222 WAR for sentimental reasons I believe. Since then , the car has had regular but light use, mainly pootling around Cambridgeshire and to the occasional show. It is still looked after by Ely Service who now trade as Penguin Motors though servicing is done by mileage rather than time because of it's very light use. Last year I had the servo replaced. Since then, the speedo reading has gone awol for some reason but the mileage is showing about 6700 miles which I presume to be 106700 miles.

It’s a lovely old bus and so much better than most tired examples out there. I doubt many exist that are materially better and it gets lots of nice comments every time I fill up with fuel or go to a show. It doesn’t look like a car that’s just been restored and wears it's years very well.
Having owned it nearly 7 years, it’s time for a change.
