2018 Powder coated wheelsI have reluctantly decided to sell my 1968 Morris LD classic camper which I have owned since 2009. Over the years this camper has taken me and my family to Orkney, John O’Grotes, Lands End, the Welsh mountains, Whitehaven, Hull, and many places in between as well as lots of music festivals and steam rallies. The camper has seating around a table that converts to a double bed, a gas stove, sink, wardrobe, cupboards, potty, and a small bed across the cab.
I believe it was converted to a camper around 1990 and was used for transporting and showing a stationery engine around steam rallies.
This ambulance started life with South Dorset Area Health Authority as a patient transport vehicle. It went into private ownership in 1977. I have the full DVLA history showing 7 keepers including myself. It was changed to a 4 speed manual in 1999 (probably 3 speed auto box before this). I have done a lot of work on the van over the years including having the radiator rebuilt, replacing and rebuilding cylinder head for unleaded petrol, full re-spray in 2015 (now tatty again), new carb and water pump, powder coated wheels, stainless exhaust. I have most of the receipts since my ownership and other receipts going back to 1995. I have attempted to use original NOS parts where possible and some ambulance fittings are still in place. I have all the paper MOTs from 1977 to 2018 when I filled in an MOT exemption form. Tax disks to 1995. Odo shows 75716. Mileage believed to be around 81, 000. Odo changed around 2003. It was shown at the NEC Classic Car Show in 2015 where it had an insurance valuation for £8000.
The camper has sat for a number of years on my drive (wheels off so 4 good tyres) as I was working on the brakes and the job became too much for me. I have all the new replacement slave cylinders ready for reassembly. Master cylinder may need reconditioning. It is a project for someone to get going again. The vehicle will need to be trailered away (weighs around 2. 5t). There are a lot of spares including engine block, wheels and lots of other things I have collected over the years. Old receipts show lots of contacts for spares and I have a lot of knowledge which I am happy to share. There are also some original BMC parts books and manuals. These items will all go with the vehicle. I have many photos of the work carried out.
