Description
1950 Norton International 500 – Long-Term Family Ownership – Clubman’s History
For sale is our 1950 Norton international 500, a genuine and increasingly hard-to-find British single with fantastic family history.
This bike has been in our family since the 1950s, originally owned by my grandfather who kept it for most of his life. It was always known in the family as his “special” bike and we have recently uncovered factory record information indicating it was supplied in Clubman’s specification (noted “For Clubmans TT”) when new. There is also a period article featuring both my grandfather and the bike, which will be included in the sale and adds to its provenance.
The bike is a matching numbers machine (engine/ frame), and is recorded as a 498cc model.
Condition-wise, the bike is complete and largely original (we suspect a replaced tank over the years), but is currently a non-runner and will require recommissioning before use. It has been stored for a long period, so expect the usual work associated with that (fuel system, ignition, general mechanical checks, etc.). Cosmetically it presents as an honest, usable project rather than a restored showpiece.
This is not a concours bike, but a genuine, well-documented example with real history — ideal either for sympathetic recommissioning and use, or as the basis for a full restoration if desired.
Key points:
• 1950 Norton 498cc International
• Matching engine and frame numbers
• In the same family since the 1950s
• Factory record notes “For Clubmans TT” (Clubman’s spec)
• Featured in a period article with original owner
• Complete bike, good basis for restoration or recommissioning
• Non-runner
A rare opportunity to acquire a proper vintage Norton with traceable history, rather than a restored example with no backstory.
Viewings welcome. Any questions, please ask.
