Description
Jaguar XJ6 Series 1 (1969) – British elegance, reliability to boot
The heritage of Sir William Lyons
Founded by Sir William Lyons, the Jaguar marque has always rested on a legendary triptych: "Grace, Pace and Space". Launched in 1968, the XJ6 Series 1 is often regarded as the pinnacle of the marque's design, blending the hushed luxury of a limousine with the sports DNA of the XK engine derived from the E-Type. Owning a 1969 Series 1 means touching the original purity of a model that redefined prestige automotive standards.
Overall Condition
This 1969 model presents itself in an ideal configuration for an enthusiast wishing to drive with ease: faultless mechanicals paired with an authentic aesthetic.
Mechanical: Perfect condition. The engine has been completely rebuilt and made reliable for modern use.
Bodywork: Presents very well despite a few signs of age. No major corrosion to report (only localised surface corrosion under the chassis, detailed photos available).
Interior: Very tidy "Gentleman Driver" ambience. The upholstery is new and the wood veneers have been restored.
A major mechanical investment
The vehicle has benefited from a full technical refresh. Here are the details of the recent work:
Complete engine overhaul (full dismantling and reassembly to the highest standard).
New cooling system: radiator, water pump, fan blades.
Electronic ignition "123 Ignition" with high-capacity coil (perfect start and idle).
Installation of a high-torque starter.
High-output alternator (XJ12 model).
Stainless steel exhaust system.
New rocker cover gasket.
Rear axle fully refreshed: mounts, linkages and four new shock absorbers.
Front end: new gas shocks and full geometry.
Braking optimised: aluminium competition calipers (Type E) and new discs at the front. Full refurbishment at the rear (calipers, discs, handbrake pads and servo brakes new).
New tyres.
Electricals & Interior Comfort
Full new upholstery and refurbishment of the rear entries.
Dashboard: new real wood veneer with varnish, upper suede cover.
Safety: installation of front seat belts with retractors.
Visibility: upgrade to high‑power LED lights (indicator/ high beams) and new central flasher.
Modernity: 1‑DIN radio with careful integration.
Unlike many models on the market, this Jaguar has received the necessary attention on the most costly items (engine, running gear, braking). It starts at the turn of a key (thanks to its optimised starter and ignition) and offers precise and secure road handling.
This is the opportunity to acquire an icon ready to hit the road for any distance, with a patina that gives it all its charm.
Last MOT September 2025, unused, and will obviously be redone for sale.
Vehicle visible in Paris 9th arrondissement.
Unfortunately I no longer have the time to keep this beauty on the road. I have therefore decided to part with it.
