Description
Sadly I’m selling my 1976 Suzuki GT500, the final evolution of Suzuki's legendary 500cc two-stroke twin.
This one is in excellent condition for a 50year old bike, it starts on the first few kicks even when it’s not been run for a while. It has no known issues. Both tyres have plenty of tread and it comes with plenty of history. Being a classic It’s MOT and road tax exempt and insurance for me is under £100 year so if used for a daily it’s very very cheap transport. The bike comes with a ream of paperwork detailing much of its 50 year history. During my ownership it has been trouble free apart the front brake light switch, which was replaced straight away.
AI’s take on the GT 500, Mecanical Soul without the Headache: Known as being "built like a tank," the GT500 is much more dependable than many of its 1970s peers. The 1976 model specifically introduced Electronic CDI ignition (Pointless Energy Ignition), which eliminates the need to constantly adjust points and allows the bike to start even with a flat battery.
Torque-Rich Riding Experience: Unlike "peaky" two-strokes that only perform at high RPMs, the GT500 delivers smooth, low-end torque. This makes it an effortless cruiser that feels more like a 650cc four-stroke twin, capable of keeping up with modern traffic.
"Grand Tourer" Capability: With its large 17-litre (4. 5 gallon) fuel tank and relaxed riding position, it was designed for long-distance touring.
Refined Stopping & Handling: The 1976 model was upgraded with a front disc brake borrowed from the larger GT750, providing significantly better stopping power than the earlier T500 drum brakes.
Ease of Maintenance: Its lack of complex electronics and straightforward air-cooled engine makes it a favorite for home mechanics and racers. The Posiforce CCI oil injection system also means you don't have to pre-mix fuel at the petrol station.
Investment Potential: These bikes are becoming increasingly rare to find in this condition so this one would make a great investment.
