Description
This car has been in my ownership for 10 years now. I am the ninth keeper of this lovely old Jaguar. It's condition is best described as fair bodily, but mechanically it's very good. There has been a small amount of welding to the passenger side front floor pan having needed reinforcement around the jacking point, usual on this model. The engine runs beautifully and has had many new parts over the past 10 years to include most sensors, high performance plugs and leads, replacement radiator and condenser (the aircon does work on this car) and new pipes of the hydraulic system. The hydraulic system exists to run the power steering only, the hydraulic suspension was replaced with conventional units before my ownership. The autobox operates as it should, the rear mounting was replaced two years ago. The headlights are looking tarnished now but have never failed the MOT nor been an advisory, two replacement units will be supplied with the car however. Bodily, the paintwork has seen better days, the most significant rust is in the front wings, two replacement wings will be supplied with the car. The last MOT saw advisiories for the subframes, both of which have been coated with Dinitrol since. The next big job was to be the rear suspension which is sagging now. All units to do this will be supplied with the car, except for the shock absorber gaiters which will need to be acquired if required. The interior is still very good, the wood and leather are still in nice condition, the most wear, of course, is on the drivers seat - but no rips or tears. The headlining is sagging as is usual with this model, it has been pinned up but is detaching badly above the back window. All tyres still have plenty of life in them as pictured. The car is a Sovereign but has been fitted with many of the XJR refinements as pictured. It's still a powerful and very quick car for it's size.
The reason for sale? Unfortunately age is catching up with me, especially the Arthritis, and I have to bow to the obvious, grovelling around under a car is now just too much for me. So I am hoping a like minded enthusiast will take it on and finish restoring it - it will be worth it that's for sure. This is such a lovely old car. It replaced another classic that I had owned for many years but was, sadly, written off after a side on collision. This car represented another classic that I had wanted to own when I was younger but could have never realistically afforded it at that time. It's classic styling just stands out and it still turns heads even today. It has been a firm favourite with the kids at the school I work at. The engine has the beautiful Jaguar sound and roars effortlessly as it moves off settling to a low purr when cruising. There are not many of these around now so I hope someone will continue to look after it and keep it alive for some years to come.
