“Drive a Jaguar for the price of a Renault Clio!”
At the end of the 1960s Sir William Lyons faced a reality of inefficiency. His range included no fewer than three luxury saloons: the Mk2, the 420, and the S-Type. The idea was to combine these three concepts into a single model, which would in due course yield substantial savings!
The solution was found in 1968 with the unveiling of the XJ6. The lines are stretched, elegant, low (put these cars alongside contemporary equivalents, it’s striking...), and the 6-cylinder used to move it all is nothing short of legendary, being the 4. 2 L also seen in the Type E.
Our example was new in France by Brossel establishments, and is among the rarest and most sought-after Series 1 (here even in early phase). The current owner, a keen Jaguar saloon collector, acquired it in 2007. The car was then reputed to be a second-hand example, which its condition seems to confirm!
This XJ6 is literally an example of intelligent restoration: from the engine, rebuilt in 2024 (10, 000 km since, run-in completed!), to the entire gearbox–diff, through the tanks, or the cooling circuit, everything has been done in recent years! The paintwork, for its part, had been redone in 2000, and the interior remains, for its part, original. A few improvements were also made: electronic ignition, modern alternator, H4 headlights on the front lamps...
Rarer than rare in this condition, this XJ6 represents a unique opportunity on the current market! Drive the most elegant family Jaguar for the price of a Clio...
