Description
Mathis was a historic French automobile manufacturer (Strasbourg/ Alsace) that built cars between roughly 1910 and 1950. The brand was founded by Émile Mathis (1880–1956). In the 1920s the company was one of the four largest car producers in France, after Citroën, Renault and Peugeot, and produced a range of models from small light cars to six-seaters and even some race-inspired models. This Mathis received a Dutch registration plate in 2025. Torpedo-bodied version
In the 1920s Mathis offered several torpedo-bodied variants — that is, open coachwork with two or more seats — including light sports models and six-seater variants.
The term “torpedo” was commonly used at the time for an open car with a streamlined body without a fixed roof, typically lightweight and intended for sportier driving or elegant cruising.
