Este coche extraordinario ha estado en mi lista de deseos durante muchos años. Lo he poseído y amado, pero ahora, debido a un problema de salud, unido a un cambio de casa, desafortunadamente debe irse.
The 3 litre straight six engine, combined with a rebuilt gearbox makes long distance cruising a delight. It is supremely comfortable and deserves its nickname of "the Swedish Rolls-Royce". Rarer than a Rolls but far less complicated and a whole lot easier to maintain.
Fully restored in 2016, it has been well cared for and looks glorious. You will be aware that there are very few left on the road - around 20, I believe. This makes it a rare car indeed. Having said that, spares are plentiful and inexpensive.
These 164s are shooting up in value and make a very sensible choice for a fully usable prestige classic. A far nicer car to drive than my previous Rover P5b, which I sold to a gentleman in Sweden for £18, 000.
This car has the essential optional power steering and runs on carbs rather than the complicated fuel injection.
For fun, it still has a 1970s radio phone. Fully restored 10 years ago by the owner of a haulage firm which ran only Volvo trucks. He wanted this as a symbol of his brand loyalty. It went to a few shows - winning the odd rosette - but was not used a lot more.
Bodywork has stood up well, having been garaged since restoration. No rust or corrosion showing on the glorious paintwork. Chrome is excellent. Tyres nearly new.
