Description
1990 Citroen BX 14 ‘St Tropez’ special edition.
This is an extremely charming BX and probably one of the nicest later 1. 4 models to own.
All white, white door surrounds, white wheel trims, pop up sunroof, tinted lights and a lovely interior make this BX stand out from many others.
The later 1. 4 models are my favourite as they are simple, frugal, smooth, and deceptively nippy. This engine was used in many cars of the era from the AX GT to the later Peugeot 306 and Citroen ZX.
The engine adds to the lightweight feel of the car perfectly and it will soak up all the country side road bumps and twists with ease as well as cruise along at 70mph easily.
This is a lower spec car, which many people with love due to its simplicity. Manual windows and mirrors, no rev counter, but it’s reliable and simple to repair. Parts are easy to get for these BXs and the engines are very simple to service.
This particular car is probably one of the nicest 1. 4 BXs you will find. It’s almost immaculate and everything works exactly as it should. The tyres, the brakes, the exhaust are all perfect and it’s a joy to drive.
I purchased this BX for my ever growing collection in late 2017. Since then it has sat in a climate controlled storage facility.
I have decided to sell a number of my cars and mainly BXs as a move abroad could be on the cards.
This is a very famous and well know BX. Its owner in 2015 spent a staggering £12, 000 at a well known North London Citroen Specialist having much of the car rebuilt as it was his pride and joy. I have all the photos, the receipts and the journal of the works completed. The car is rust free and if looked after will last another 35 years.
You will not find a better right hand drive 1. 4 Petrol BX for sale in the UK!
As a BX fanatic, I can confidently say that the 1. 4 TU engined BXs are fantastic. People think they will underpowered, but they are not. People think they will be noisy, but they are not. This is a gem of an engine which suits the character of a BX perfectly. Many people want a Turbo diesel, which are ok, but they are smoky smelly noisy units which although are quick for their time, the added weight of the engine ruins the ride and the car’s character, not to mention affects the handling. The 1. 6 petrol was no better to drive than the 1. 4 but they never lasted as well. The 1. 9 petrol was good, but do you need the extra power, weight and fuel consumption? The 1. 9 16v is a gem and I have several - one is coming for sale very soon!Character charm and French quirkiness carried out perfectly in this simple little car.
