Description
Built in 1962, this well-presented example is finished in an eye-catching Jaguar Pearlescent Mid Blue with a dark blue leather interior complimenting the rest of the car. Originally built as a 3. 4, it was upgraded early in its life to the more powerful 3. 8 engine.
Undergoing a complete ground-up restoration in 1998 by Zwakman of Holland, this car’s high specification includes:
3. 8ltr, straight 6 engine built to Coombs spec.
2” SU carburettors feed a polished and ported cylinder head and a stainless steel exhaust system helps the engine breath.
Fast road/ race spec camshafts are fitted giving a very usable 260 BHP.
A lightened flywheel makes the engine more responsive and an uprated clutch connects the engine to the overhauled Jaguar/ Moss gearbox.
Electronic ignition and an uprated coolant radiator make the car more reliable for today’s traffic.
The suspension has been lowered by about 1” and a Harvey Bailey handling kit stiffens things up just the right amount without making it too harsh for today’s roads.
Competition chrome wire wheels fitted with Vredestein Sprint Classic tyres all add to improving the handling.
Complete with a full original tool kit, jack and spare wheel, the car is sold with a very comprehensive history file, covering maintenance and MOTs back to the 60s.
Looked after by us at JHC for the last few years, this car is an exceptional example of Jaguar’s iconic saloon. Launched in October 1959, the MK II replaced the earlier 2. 4 & 3. 4 MK 1 saloons and became an instant success, overshadowing the original MK I design. It featured the same 2. 4 & 3. 4 engine sizes, plus the addition of the 3. 8 from the XK150 which gave it outstanding performance and for a while, made it the fastest production saloon car in the world.
The Mk II design was based very much on its predecessor but had a much lighter and more modern appearance. Slimmer window frames (that were no longer part of the door mouldings) gave a larger glass area and whilst the interior benefitted from a complete redesign, it still retained Jaguar’s wood veneer and leather luxury.
