Description
With a heavy heart I am selling my beautiful Mk3 Spitfire.
When I purchased the car 4 years ago it was a genuine barn find, my understanding being that it had been restored in the late 80s and then when into storage until a few years ago.
Coming out of storage it had it's brakes overhauled, was fully serviced and got running, which is when I purchased it.
From here I set out to continue bringing her back to life, I completely stripped and replaced the interior and began work on the carbs which weren't quite right, unfortunately then had a bout of ill health, which meant she stood in my garage for a another few years untouched. And she became a bit of a burden, knowing she was sitting there but I couldn't do anything.
In the last 6 months, my health restored, I got her back running and tidied up, but I've no longer got the passion to use her, or continue the journey.
- Rare original vinyl covered Lenham hardtop
- Incredibly solid underneath
- 1300 Engine - that now starts and runs really well.
- Carbs stripped and ultrasonic cleaned, and rebuilt with uprated seals
- Timing set
- New spark plugs & leads
- New filters
- Brakes overhauled
- New UJ
- New carpets, seat foam and covers. (I fitted later headrest seats for safety)
- Sound proofing fitted whilst interior out.
- Missing H bracket sourced, restored and fitted.
- New battery (well new a couple of years back, but has sat disconnected)
- Gear stick bushes replaced.
- I also removed the original tarnished bumpers, and fabricated brackets to fit period Lucas fog lights.
There's probably more that's been done, but that's off the top of my head.
Further work still needs to be done, or if you don't mind an "Oily rag" older restoration can very much be used as is.
Some areas of the bonnet are rust underneath. The front lower valance isn't great but only noticeable if you going looking, the bulk of it is solid. Some bubbling around the windscreen, which also could do with new rubber seals.
Wiring is tired in places and could do with tidying, I've replaced some but further needs work.
Tyres, although okay condition are old - One is brand new but dated 1988!
Some of the dash is shabby. Instruments could all do with checking over.
I've not done many miles since getting her up running, so other things may crop up.
All in it's a stunning rare car, that draws so much attention (I've had people ask if it was an Aston), that needs someone to continue the work, or just enjoy as is (imperfect), with a rare hardtop that's worth a fair bit on it's own.
Any questions please ask.
