This stunning Apple green (from new) is one of the rare surviving original RHD non-converted Lhd cars.
58, 309 TR3A’s were produced in total between 1957 and 1962.
In 1959, 21, 186 were produced of which 20, 548 were exported, with only 638 remaining in the U. K.
UDM 322 is one of the 638 UK cars.
This car had the body restored from bare metal back in 2005 including new floors and again a body off restoration in 2014 a year before I purchased the car over 10 years ago.
I am now the 10th owner from new since it was first registered on 22nd October 1959. It has just had a full bare metal engine out restoration ( over 800 hours work) carried out over the last year and a half by the brilliant Prestige Paintwork in Haslemere, Surrey which is nearing completion as I am writing this advert.
I have loads of history and receipts in folders including the original green log book with all the original owners.
Also when originally trying to put my own private plate on the car it seems that the original plate UDM 322 from new is now being classed as a private plate , I think something to do with the fire / loss of documents at the DVLA back in the 1960’s?
As they have offered me a different number plate age related if I carried this out, which I didn’t do. As soon as I saw the car in the flesh I had to buy it, it was the colour, apple green it just worked so well for me.
The previous owner, Willie, had the following done to the car before I bought it:-
With the restoration back in 2014 he refitted the body using new stainless fixings, new stainless steel bumpers and overriders fitted, new rear springs and 3 degree TR4 trunnions and top arms.
Also a bolt on rack and pinion conversion.
A new black interior carpet set and trim panel, new Corbeau low back seats and a fantastic Square Clayton 2 speed heater, which really works very well.
The engine has 87mm liners, stage 3 unleaded Harrell head ( only ever used super grade 97or 98 octane) lightened rods, balanced, road cam. New SU H6 carbs on aTR4 A inlet manifold.
Martin Jay dizzy with Pertronix system. Electric fuel pump, Bastuck alloy tank. New four branch exhaust manifold, flame sprayed and heat coated. Stainless sport single box exhaust system. Oil cooler and recently recored radiator with electric sucker fan. New alternator and Hi torque starter.
The transmission is an ex Triumph 2. 5 PI estate J type overdrive gearbox, TR4 A flywheel and diaphragm clutch. With a very cool machined aluminium Denis Welch big Healey over drive switch as the gearknob!
The suspension is all Superpro bushed, Gaz spax shocks front and reconditioned lever arm rears. Anti roll bar.
Front disks with braided hoses with TR4 type master cylinders.
This fast road spec car was tested on the rolling road and gave 123 BHP at 4, 500 rpm!
Now all of the above was why I bought it.
It comes with a refurbed hard top, tonneau cover, soft top and doors all in great condition.
I have also just had the wire wheels shot blasted and redone.
In my ownership this car has always been garaged and has never been out in the wet.
Over the years that I have had it the paintwork was starting to look tired and I don’t think the preparation before it was last painted was that great. The decision was made to get Prestige to do it properly.
We have a full photographic record of all the prep, work, and restoration work carried out late 2024/ 2025/ 2026 to a very high standard including all the receipts from all the specialists for all new nuts, bolts, gaskets, rubbers, fixing kits etc etc.
I have also had new nappa leather fitted to all the capping around the car and new vinyl on the door cards.
It also comes with a new 5 litre Jerry can which we had sprayed in apple green too!
