Zurückhaltend bewerbe ich unseren ehemaligen Kalifornien-Dodge WC 1/ 2-Ton Pickup von 1947, vollständig UK-registriert mit V5C in meinem Namen.
One of the most original post-war American pickup trucks you'll find, they are hard to find like this in the US now and are very scarce over here. Plus with transport and import costs as they are now, bringing one from the US is much less viable than it was.
Ich kenne diesen Truck seit etwa 15 Jahren und habe ihn 2022 gekauft.
After being imported by the previous owners, it underwent a significant mechanical check over while preserving the "oily rag" appearance. The re-commissioning work included building up & machining a higher ratio differential (which raised the gearing so cruises better than it did originally), plus re-furb'ing/ replacing the propshaft, brakes (linings, hydraulics, pipes etc), full engine service (the original straight six), new fuel tank, exhaust, tyres, spring shackles, ignition parts, seat re-covering, wiring and much more. The engine bears a rebuilder's plaque for a company in California.
Der Motor ist sehr leise und geschmeidig, keine Klopfer, kein Rauch oder andere Probleme. Fahrverhalten gut, Gänge und Kupplung in Ordnung, Bremsen ziehen ordentlich.
Being from a dry US state, the bodywork is incredible, no welding was or is required. All the places that old pickups tend to rot - eg around the screen, door bottoms, lower cab corners, wing edges, floors, sills, tailgate etc are all rock solid and no filler. The wood in the back was replaced by a hardwood, re-using the old strips. There's an ancient ding in the front wing that could be thumped out, but I didn't see much need to do it.
Durch einen trockenen US-Bundesstaat stammend, ist die Karosserie fantastisch; kein Schweißen war nötig. Alle typischen Roststellen bei alten Pickups – rund um die Scheibe, Türenunterkanten, untere Kabinenecken, Kotflügelkanten, Böden, Schweller, Heckklappe – sind durchweg solide und es gibt keinen Füller. Das Holz im Heck wurde durch Hartholz ersetzt, die alten Streifen wurden wiederverwendet. Am vorderen Kotflügel gibt es eine alte Delle, die man ausklopfen könnte, ich sah aber keinen großen Bedarf dazu.
The interior is very original too, no ugly cut-outs in the dash for a modern radio, it's just as it should be. The old door trims and basic headlining material are gone but are available new I believe same for the cardboard glovebox liner.
Das Interieur ist ebenfalls sehr original, keine hässlichen Ausschnitte im Armaturenbrett für ein modernes Radio, so wie es sein soll. Die alten Türverkleidungen und der einfache Kopfteil sind weg, aber Neuware ist meines Wissens nach erhältlich, ebenso wie der Kartonablagebuchdeckel.
The majority of the paint is the light blue applied shortly after the truck was built, with just a few bits touched in as necessary.
Der Großteil der Lackierung ist in dem hellen Blau, das kurz nach dem Truckbau aufgetragen wurde, nur wenige Stellen wurden nachgebessert.
As well as the current logbook there's also a reprint of the factory manual and several receipts for the work done. There's also a copy of a registration card from Waterford in California detailing the old owner - a Mr Walter Andrews. It spent its life on an almond farm, and there are a few photos of it "as found".

If you want a hot-rodded truck, this isn't it. If you want a proper survivor truck in incredible condition, to drive as it would have been back on the dusty back roads of California in the 1940s, then maybe this is for you.

American pickups are very popular in the UK but most seem to have been "improved" with modern running gear, flashy wheels, incorrect engines and other "upgrades". This though is a rare opportunity to buy one as close to original as you're likely to find.
