Beschreibung

This 1948 Fiat 500B Topolino is a genuine barn find from Sicily, Italy, with outstanding provenance and a solid, honest condition that is increasingly hard to find on cars of this age.

Condition

The car has been stored in a private garage in Sicily for a number of years. The dry Sicilian climate has been extremely kind to the bodywork and undercarriage — the floor pans and chassis rails are solid with no significant rust or rot, which is exceptional for a 77-year-old vehicle. The bodywork panels are largely straight and intact. The paintwork is a two-tone burgundy and dark grey, which is not the original factory finish but presents well. The fabric roof section requires attention.

The engine turns over. The car requires two known repairs to be roadworthy: the rear brakes have seized due to inactivity, and the fuel pump needs replacing. Both are straightforward jobs for any classic car mechanic familiar with pre-war Italian vehicles.
Interior

The interior is original and largely complete — period cloth seats, original door cards, dashboard and instruments all present. The original trafficator semaphore indicators are still fitted, which is rare on surviving examples.

History & Documentation

This car carries exceptional documentation for a vehicle of its age. It is registered with the Registro Fiat Italiano in Turin and participated in the Giornata Nazionale Orgoglio Fiat on 19 January 2003, a national historic event touring Italy from Turin to Palermo. The original event badge remains on the car. It also has ASI history, having participated in the Giro di Sicilia historic rally. All Italian documents are in order — Carta di Circolazione and Certificato di Proprietà — and the original period plates (VT 012888) are included.

What’s included in the sale

The sale includes the car, all documentation, original period plates, a complete spare engine, a spare gearbox, and a collection of additional spare parts — making this an outstanding package for a restorer or collector.

Future work

Beyond freeing the rear brakes and replacing the fuel pump, a full recommission is recommended before regular use. The fabric roof will benefit from replacement or repair. The paintwork, while presentable, could be returned to original specification as part of a full restoration.

This is a rare opportunity to acquire a documented, rust-free Topolino with genuine rally history, offered at a fair and honest price.

The sale includes an exceptional collection of spare parts: spare engine, gearbox, bonnet, exhaust, hood/ soft top, 4 summer curtains, tyres, dynamo and starter motor — a complete spares package that is extraordinarily rare to find with any classic of this ageThere are Topolinos, and then there is this Topolino.
What makes this car truly special is not just what it is — one of Italy’s most iconic and charming classics — but what it comes with. A spare engine, a spare gearbox, original period plates, and a documented history that most collectors can only dream of. The Registro Fiat Italiano badge. The Giro di Sicilia. A national tour from Turin to Palermo. This little car has lived a full life, and it has the paperwork to prove every chapter of it.
Then there is the undercarriage. If you have spent any time looking at Topolinos, you know that finding one without a rotted floor is genuinely rare. This one, thanks to 77 years in the Sicilian sun, is solid. That changes everything — it means a restorer can focus on bringing the car back to its best rather than fighting rust from day one.
The original trafficator indicators are still fitted and present. The interior is all there. The chassis number matches the documents. These things matter.
But honestly? The thing that makes this car unforgettable is simply the way it looks sitting in that garage — round headlamps, oval grille, that impossibly cute silhouette that launched a thousand smiles. The Topolino was the car that put Italy on wheels. This one did a lap of Sicily with ASI for good measure.
It deserves a keeper who will love it as much as its previous owner clearly did.
