Description
Exceptional Provenance
This very rare 1968 Westfalia Campmobile is exceptional in almost every respect.
Originally purchased new in California, it spent most of its life with its first owner, an avid vehicle collector who kept it garaged and used it sparingly. Over the first 32 years of its life it covered just 33, 000 miles.
The vehicle was later gifted to his daughter and son-in-law in the UK, who imported it and converted it to UK legal specification. In reality, it has effectively remained within the same family ownership from new until I purchased it.
A documented service history accompanies the vehicle from original purchase through to its arrival in the UK. The original bill of sale is also included.
Mileage and Condition
The camper has covered fewer than 45, 000 miles from new and looks and drives accordingly.
The driver and passenger seats remain remarkably fresh and unworn. The engine bay is clean and tidy and the vehicle was fully serviced in 2026 by the previous owner when it passed its MOT with no advisories.
The engine is strong, starts readily and performs exactly as it should. The gear change is precise by Type 2 standards.
As far as I can see, the vehicle has never required welding and none is currently needed.
The paintwork is excellent. The upper section remains original paint, while the lower section was professionally repainted in 2013. Naturally there are a few minor stone chips and age-related blemishes, but nothing of significance.
Interior
The interior is equally impressive and retains much of its original character.

This camper is different.
It is one of those increasingly rare vehicles that has simply survived remarkably well. The low mileage, long-term family ownership and careful storage have preserved qualities that are almost impossible to recreate through restoration alone.
Open the door and the seats look barely used. The original curtains remain. The doors shut properly. The fittings still feel right. Drive it and it feels tight, honest and genuine.
I bought this Westfalia because it reminded me of the wonderful times my family and I enjoyed when my sons were young and we owned Type 2 campers. Unfortunately, life moves on. I am now retired, my wife is not comfortable driving a left-hand-drive vehicle and I can no longer give it the time and attention it deserves.
Selling it is not easy.
Finding someone who will appreciate and cherish it is more important to me than achieving the very last pound in price.
This is not a project. It is not a restoration candidate. It is a wonderfully original and remarkably preserved Westfalia that is ready to be driven, camped in and enjoyed u
