the ford model y is an automobile that was produced by ford britain, ford saf and ford germany from 1932 to 1937. it was the first ford car specifically designed for markets outside the united states, replacing the model a in europe.

It’s a neat car with a great story. the cars flowed from an assembly plant at trafford park in manchester and were in production from 1932 until september 1937. the model y is sometimes remembered as the "ford eight", reflecting its fiscal horsepower rating.
the car is powered by a 885 cc (56. 9 cu in) 8 (rac)hp ford side value engine. The little ford was available in two- and four-door versions, sold as the 'tudor' (a pun on 'two-door') and the 'fordor' (ford/ four-door) respectively. Originally, each body was also available in standard or the better-equipped 'deluxe' trim level.
for the first 14 months the original model with a short radiator grille was produced, this is known as the "short rad". after this in october 1933 the "long rad" model, with its longer radiator grille and front bumper with the characteristic dip was produced. By gradually improving production efficiency and by simplifying the body design the cost of this "popular" model y was reduced to £100, making it the cheapest true 4-seater saloon ever, although most customers were persuaded to pay extra for the deluxe version. Both 4-door (fordor) and 2-door (tudor) saloons were produced and these could be had either with a fixed roof, or the slightly more expensive sliding "sun" roof.
the exquisite model y deluxe offered here with it's original surrey registration underwent an extensive full restoration during 2022 and remains very impressive in all respects today. The engine work alone came at a cost of £6993. 44 as evidenced by invoices from "ecosse automotive". the gleaming black over green paint work is akin to polished glass. the photographs, taken on a overcast day, do not do the car justice. There are no dents, scratches, scuffs or blemishes to be found and no evidence of rust/ rot. The chrome work is very good and the car remains wind and watertight. All 5 original spoke wheels are in excellent condition sitting on matching new tyres with plenty tread. Since the said restoration, the car has covered very little miles. the model y deluxe is part of a collection of classics kept and maintained in a heated & fully enclosed water tight environment.
as stated this stunning model y is in super all round original condition. The little ford drives and stops great, and so much fun, turning heads wherever it travels and no wonder given the very few examples remaining out there and the car having retained it's original beautiful appearance/ condition.
the interior is also in good order, original, clean and uncluttered. There are no tears, unsightly scuffs or marks, signs of wear or discoloration. All is in tact, functioning as intended, comfortable and pleasant to the eye.
the chassis and undercarriage is clean and solid in all areas, as are the floor pans etc. Again, there is no evidence of rot/ rust anywhere.
engine bay - clean, uncluttered and in original layout providing more than ample room for mechanical work.
engine - the engine is reliable, agile and responsive, starts first time of asking every time. It sounds just as it would have, through the gearbox and exhaust system, on leaving the factory.
transmission - the all synchromesh manual gear box is like the engine, agile, responsive and smooth to the change.
brakes - new brakes fitted 2022 -spot on !
full service and oil change undertaken late may 2026.
all in all, this is a fantastic ford model y which is much admired and so much fun to drive. Always brings an instant and enduring smile of pride and satisfaction. It also represents a piece of british ford motoring history.
the model y being a 89 year old historic classic vehicle is therefore mot, ulez, congestion and tax exempt.
the little gem has had merely 7 keepers in its 89 year history. As stated, the car is part of a private collection and only used sparingly in dry/ warm weather conditions. The model y as it presents today, is a credit to it's keepers and the marque. It is also a clear investment opportunity aligned to in-expensive classic car ownership, enjoyment with natural pride of ownership and as stated a piece of british ford motoring art and history.
