For sale is my 2002 BMW E39 Individual Champagne Edition 1. For those who don’t know, the Champagne Edition 1 is significantly rarer than the Edition 2’s and has some cool features that the 2’s did not have, like Heated Electric Memory Seats and an Electric Steering Column. I’ve had a few E39’s and this is by far one of the cleanest examples I have personally seen. I would've loved to keep this in my collection but my circumstances have changed resulting in me selling a few cars.
All of the work listed below is fully documented. I have receipts, invoices, and photographs for the maintenance and restoration carried out. I also have a USB full of pictures of all the work carried out on the car which will be given to the new owner.
Major Engine and Preventive Work
- Full timing chain replaced and overhaul carried out at approximately 109, 000 miles
- Upper and lower timing chain guides were also replaced
- VANOS rebuild kit installed with anti-rattle rings (X8R)
- Oil filter housing gasket replaced
- Oil sump gasket replaced
- Rocker cover gasket replaced
- Crankcase breather pipe replaced
- Associated engine seals renewed
- Engine flush completed
- Oil changes done yearly with 5w30 fully synthetic
- All air and pollen filters changed
- Rear silencer delete. Factory exhaust tip style remained.
Cooling System Refresh
- Water pump with metal propellers replaced at approximately 110, 000 miles
- Thermostat housing replaced at approximately 111, 000 miles
- Top radiator hose replaced
- Plastic cooling system pipes replaced
- Fresh antifreeze added
* Braking, Servicing and Specialist Work*
All work below carried out by Dartford Transmissions, Martin Hind, well known within the BMW E39 community for servicing and mechanical work
- Front brake overhaul carried out at approximately 114, 000 miles
- Front brake discs replaced
- Front brake pads replaced
- Both front brake callipers replaced
- Front anti roll bar link replaced
- All callipers painted in anthracite grey
* Gearbox and Electrical*
- Gearbox service carried out at approximately 113, 800 miles by Dartford Transmissions
- New remote key supplied and programmed, therefore sale comes with 2 x keys and original service/ valet key
- New Yuasa battery fitted
* Interior Restoration*
- Full interior recolour and redye carried out to factory standard in November 2023
- Front and rear seats fully recolonised
- Door cards also fully recolonised to match
- Driver’s seat foam rebuilt so side bolsters are correctly supported
- Electric seats fully functioning
- Heated seats fully functioning
* Exterior and Bodywork*
- Brand new genuine BMW front windscreen fitted October 2023
- Front bumper smoothed and resprayed
- Both rear arches treated for rust and resprayed
- Jacking points inspected, treated for future prevention
- Front wing resprayed
- Brake callipers refinished in graphite grey
- PDR (Paint less Dent Removal) to remove some small dents around the car
Recent works in the past month or 2:
- Front speakers changed to Focal Polyglass 6. 5” component speakers and rear speakers changed to Focal Coaxials. All speakers are now amped. Factory locations used so you can’t tell that anything has been changed. Sony carplay unit also fitted in an OEM style housing
- Brand new tyres fitted all round, I’ve only done a few hundred miles on them.
- Cluster was sent to AKSpeedo to get a new screen fitted as there were a load of pixels missing. It now works flawlessly.
- Abs module has been sent out for repair. This will be fitted back into the car as soon as I receive it, which should be in the next few days.
Bits to note:
- Boot lid has corrosion around the number plate lights. I have a spare rust-free boot lid that will be included with the sale, it just needs to be painted.
- Rear parking sensors can be a bit temperamental. I reckon one of the sensors is on its way out, but I will aim to get this fixed before the sale.
- Private plate will be removed before sale.
Various spares will come with the car also.
