Description
A fantastic, low-mileage, and well-maintained example of the post-facelift R50. It is presented in stunning Black Eyed Purple, a rare color only available from 2004 to 2006.
Being a later facelift model, it benefits from refreshed styling and, more importantly, the Getrag gearbox—which is widely known to be far more robust than the fragile Midland units found in earlier models.
In my opinion, this era of Mini is the absolute sweet spot: raw, analog, and incredibly fun, yet perfectly usable. Kept in this condition with below-average mileage, it’s a modern classic that is highly likely to appreciate.
Exterior: Very good for its age with only minor, age-related marks.
Interior: Excellent condition throughout. Brand new genuine gearknob and fresh trim pieces fitted.
Underbody: Incredibly clean. Minimal surface corrosion underneath—honestly, it looks cleaner on a ramp than a 2019 Ford I recently sold!
When I purchased the car, it had been self-maintained by the previous owner's mechanic son. While it lacks a heavily stamped booklet, the visual evidence of care was obvious (including a recent service and fresh, bright green power steering fluid).
Since taking ownership, I have given the car a comprehensive mechanical and cosmetic refresh to bring it up to my standards. I have receipts for all of the following recent work:
4 x Brand New Bridgestone Weather Control Evo 005 tyres & full alignment.
Full Meyle HD suspension component set.
New passenger door lock actuator (fully working now).
New genuine OEM boot handle and fog light trim.
Professional headlight restoration/ polish.
Full premium wiper blade set.
Air conditioning system deep clean & re-gas.
Professional removal of a faded Union Jack roof decal (7 hours of detailer labor to get the roof paint flawless).
Price & Viewings
I am looking for a buyer who appreciates the rarity of the color and the mechanical peace of mind this example offers. I am happy to discuss reasonable offers in person once you have viewed the car.
I am not interested in over-the-phone price negotiations or individuals looking for a battered, cheap runabout. If it doesn't find the right home, I am more than happy to tuck it away and hang onto it. I saw another R50 in Black Eye Purple with white roof, stripes and mirror caps, then became obsessed with getting one for myself. It looks kinda blue in the photos but it's definitely a deep purple that transforms into a majestic blue depending on the light. If you don't like the colour, this one isn't for you. It's got tons of personality and is insanely fun to drive. A refreshing contrast to the daily commute in a hybrid!
I had intended to store it away each winter, then take it out on the winding roads when the sun was shining, to really take advantage of that go-kart handling. However I just can't justify tax, insurance and maintenance etc on three cars. Not ideal to come to this realisation after I've just spent nearly £2K refreshing it, but my loss could be your gain.
