2009 TVR Sagaris 2 Chevrolet
The Sagaris. TVR’s final and, some say, finest creation. Designed and built with one eye firmly on racing and produced in tiny numbers (211 is an oft quoted figure) any Sagaris is a rapid and rare machine. This example, however, pushes those descriptions a little further than most…
This car began life in 2006 as a Sagaris 2, an improved version intended for the 2007 model year and an exceptionally rare machine even by Sagaris standards. Unfortunately the company went out of business before the build was completed, the car becoming one of two purchased from the factory as rolling body/ chassis assemblies by its current owner, a BRDC Member with extensive motorsport experience including running TVRs at the Le Mans 24 Hours, the intention being for he and his team to create an even more developed version of the Sagaris.
The engine is the seven litre Chevrolet LS7 V8, the largest and most advanced of the popular LS family. This drives a robust Tremec Magnum six speed gearbox and a Hydratrak differential. Much work has gone into reinforcing the chassis, both to cope with the extra power and torque of the LS7 and to further enhance the car’s already capable handling. Other refinements include improved suspension mountings, larger brakes, adjustable Penske dampers and the relocation of ancillaries such as the battery and oil tank to the rear of the car to achieve perfect 50/ 50 weight distribution.
Having covered approximately 350 miles since completion and road registration in 2009, the car still presents excellently in Ferrari Grigio Titanio over a red and cream interior created by ex-TVR factory trimmers. It also wears a set of factory alloy wheels matching those on the original Sagaris 2 show car. With over 600bhp propelling only 1100kg the numbers are extreme, but the expertly honed chassis ensures it is actually a precise, balanced and very driveable tool for an experienced driver looking for serious performance and something a little different to the usual high end sports car candidates.
