DESCRIPTION:
A V8S is a rarity in itself, with only 410 made and spread worldwide, they’ve always been a rare sight on our roads. Today, that number is a paltry 16 cars still taxed and tested, with 35 off the road still registered, so this is a seriously scarce bit of British motoring history, especially with only 35k documented miles covered. It spent its life in Jersey, so it’s not had a hard time with the rain & salt, or being driven hard as there just isn’t the space! The pearl white paintwork really glistens in the sun; the interior is in very tidy order with a few HPC upgrades to bring its driving experience into the 21st century too (the original steering wheel is still available with the car). Turn the key and that legendary pre-cat V8 burble is exquisite, you know it’s a bit special!
On the road the car drives as smooth as butter, thanks to our workshop’s attention to detail. Every item you can think of has been tested, checked or replaced and upgraded. So, you have an on the button, fast and strong V8 TVR ready to go and enjoy touring with. With new tyres, brakes and more, the car handles, goes and stops just like a it would have done from the factory, a really smooth cruiser, putting modern cars to shame with the comfort of balloon tyres and light springs and damping due to the low weight. Open the taps though & the thunderous V8 really knows how to sing! It just has to be one of the best noises in the automotive world, it was then & is still pretty hard to beat!
Although it isn’t concours prepared, it is a very tidy & honest 34-year-old car. It would look great at any show and even better on the road. The roof is fresh with nice new seals. The roof is a split roof, which fits in the boot nice and easily, which is a nice touch. V8, mid engined, pre cat, manual and rare, it certainly ticks a lot of boxes, what are you waiting for!
Technical Spec:
Coming from the factory with a torquey Rover V8 and 4 litres of displacement and a kerb weight of just 1, 054kg, the V8S packed a serious punch. It didn’t just out-gun the opponents, it smashed them into a different realm. For similar money then and now, you could buy an MG RV8, or a Marcos, but both had weedy outputs and no less weight, TVR built a real brute with no thought about anything bar performance. They took the already decent V6 S car and widened it drastically too, for better handling and roadholding, it also just looks cooler, doesn’t it!
At only 35k miles a lot of the car was fully original when it arrived with us here at HPC Classics, so we went about upgrading and improving where possible, replacing perishable items and servicing everything else, the list of prep is staggering and the highlights are below, but there have been more hours plumbed into the car, just to finesse the finer points.
