This 1992 registered Mercedes 500 SL R129 model in absolutely exceptional condition. Having covered only 89k kilometres (55k miles) it can only be described superb throughout. I imported it from Japan directly by myself in 2025. It is in truly remarkable condition inside and out. Finished in factory Artic White with contrasting Grey tartan cloth upholstery, an extremely rare and desirable option.
It is completely rust free and the underbody is in as good condition as the exterior is. This car was ordered from the factory with matching Artic White lower Sacco body panels and bumpers, as opposed to the standard matt grey colour option.
It has recently undergone a comprehensive mechanical recommissioning which was carried out by local Classic Mercedes specialist The Benz Workshop. This included replacement of the seals in all the hydraulic rams of the Softop mechanism. This means the roof mechanism is good for another 30 years. It has had new Bilstein shock absorbers all around and many steering components renewed to insure that it drives as sweetly as the day it left the factory.
The Mohair soft top is in excellent condition. The headcloth on the Hard Top was replaced due to aging. The paintwork has also bern treated to a 3 stage paint correction and ceramic coating applied.
As you can see from the photos of the build sheet specification this car has an assembly date of January 1992, which means that during production it was not fitted with the biodegradable type wiring loom so there is no fear on that front.
The 16inch Diamond Cut alloy wheels are in excellent condition and are shod with four new Uniroyal Rain Sport tyres.
Everything works as is should including the infrared remote central locking system. Air conditioning blows nice and cold.
This car is collector quality and will only appreciate in value in the years to come as all SL Mercedes have done in the past. Good R129 SLs, especially V8s really have to offer some of the best value for money in the classic car market at present.
