Description

** Being sold as a project due to an intermittent cooling issue **.

MOT to 21st May 2027 with no advisories.

3 previous owners.

Two keys with working remote fobs.

I have owned the car since July 2024 and have the service history since then but not much written history before then.

I bought the car from a professional paint and body expert who had carried out a number of repairs to remove rust from the body before carrying out a full respray in the original Trophy Blue. He also added a boot lid spoiler. The bodywork is now in excellent condition.

Head gasket, water pump, thermostat, expansion tank cap and coolant changed recently. Head gasket is the upgraded version with steel dowels.

At the same time he had the head gasket, timing belt and water pump replaced and the under body coolant pipes replaced with stainless steel pipes.

During my ownership I have had new 'Softride' springs and dampers fitted all round, suspension geometry checked and adjusted, new brake discs and pads fitted all round with new brake fluid, new clutch slave cylinder and braided flexi pipe plus new fluid, a full service in September 2025 with new plugs, filters, oil etc and in May this year a new thermostat, coolant and replacement driveshaft oil seal fitted with fresh gearbox oil.

The car now drives really nicely apart from the cooling issue and a few suspension squeaks in the recent dry weather although everything is tight aparently this happens quite often until the softride suspension settles down.

Occasionally the coolant level in the expansion tank rises significantly after about 20 miles and some coolant may released through the expansion tank cap. A few minutes after stopping the engine the water level drops back down to normal and can be fine for several journeys before it happens again. Someone has added black sealant to the cooling system before my ownership and I suspect that the remnants of this sealant are causing an intermittent blockage somewhere in the cooling system. The car doesn't overheat and runs with the water temperature gauge just below the half way mark. The car looks lovely in its original Trophy Blue colour with the addtion of a small boot spoiler.

It drives really well with the soft top up or down after all of the work which has been completed and may well provide a cheap way into an MGTF for someone who is prepared to investigate and resolve the cooling issue.

Unfortunately I no longer have the time required to start flushing the cooling system to remove any contaminants.
