A transmission specialist diagnosed fault code P1856 - Selector Lever Detection Failed, indicating an issue with the gear selector/ electronic gear selection system rather than the gearbox itself. Occasionally, after coming to a stop, the gearbox may not engage Drive or Reverse until the ignition is restarted. Once engaged, the engine and gearbox perform perfectly and the vehicle drives exceptionally well. This is a relatively common issue on these models and is not considered an expensive repair.
