Citroën Mehari RANGER (1978) – An Uruguayan exclusive for export to Europe
Why you’re going to love this classic
I bought this Mehari Ranger because I’ve always been fascinated by how an idea born in Uruguay managed to improve on such an iconic French design.
I wanted to preserve a part of our motoring history and restore it to its former glory.
In restoring it to mint condition, my aim was to create a show-quality car, respecting its authenticity whilst ensuring it feels and drives as if it had just rolled off the production line in 1978. You’ll love it because it’s not just a car for a spin; it’s a real head-turner.
In Europe, where the Mehari is a common classic in coastal areas, this Ranger breaks all the moulds. It’s the perfect blend of French nostalgia and Uruguayan robustness.✨ My favourite part (What makes it unique) If I had to choose my favourite detail, it would undoubtedly be the combination of its hardtop with the widened body lines.
The European canvas-roofed Mehari can sometimes feel flimsy or too exposed; by contrast, when you climb into this Ranger and close the door, the rigid structure gives you a sense of solidity, security and enclosure that’s not found in the conventional version
. What’s more, aesthetically it gives it a spectacular silhouette, much more adventurous and with a commanding presence that stands out from any angle. It is, quite literally, a Mehari unlike any other in the world.
