Presented in a wonderfully evocative colour combination and with an impressive level of recent expenditure, this Maserati 4200 Coupe is a particularly appealing example of the marque’s Ferrari-engined grand tourer. Both cosmetically and mechanically, it has been very well maintained throughout its life and, importantly, it drives exactly as it should, with no known faults. Start the V8 and the character really comes alive, with the unmistakable soundtrack of Maserati’s Ferrari-derived engine enhanced by the wonderfully aggressive note of the Larini exhaust.
The colour was changed in 2014 by the very capable and respected West Herts Customs (see photo of bare metal preparation) to a stunning Bianca Fuji Pearl, and it suits the flowing lines of the 4200 exceptionally well. Understated yet striking, it highlights the sculpted bodywork beautifully and, in my opinion, is one of the very best colour choices for this generation of Maserati. The gloss-black alloy wheels are in excellent, unmarked condition and complement the pearl paintwork perfectly.
Inside, the contrasting blue leather interior presents very well, retaining the elegant, sporting character expected of a Maserati GT, and even extends to the fabulous leather headlining. There is no obvious excessive wear or damage, with the only notable point being the familiar ‘sticky button’ issue affecting some of the dashboard controls and currently the boot indication light remains on the panel (being addressed). The buttons have been painted white to prevent any inconvenience when using them, and there is a set of replacement overlays. Alternatively, a number of permanent repair solutions are readily available.
The Maserati benefits from a good service history, with ten stamps recorded in the service book. The first owner had it maintained by the Cardiff Maserati dealership. All subsequent servicing has been correctly recorded, providing a reassuring record of ongoing maintenance.
The V5C confirms three former keepers from new, while it comes with an MOT certificate showing no advisories, valid until 16 February 2027.
One point worthy of note concerns the speedometer. In 2007, the original unit was replaced by Cardiff Maserati under warranty, with the faulty unit recording 41, 700 miles at the time. It has subsequently covered approximately 40, 000 miles, giving a current total mileage of around 81, 700 miles.
Overall, this is an exciting and great looking Maserati GT with the right ingredients; Ferrari-derived V8 power, a fantastic exhaust note, the desirable F1 transmission, a superb colour combination and three former keepers. It is an example that can be enjoyed immediately while also offering plenty of scope to finish the small cosmetic details and make it truly exceptional, come and see it or make contact for any further information.
