A very attractive and increasingly rare Porsche Boxster 986 2. 7 manual, finished in Rainforest Green Metallic with approximately 134, 000 miles.
The car presents very well for its age and benefits from a particularly attractive and unusual factory colour combination. It sits on 18-inch BBS alloy wheels with new Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tyres, which suit the car extremely well.
Importantly, a number of the major maintenance items associated with the 986 have already been attended to including the rear main seal (RMS) and clutch. It has also had a replacement alternator and work carried out to the brake lines. Over £4, 000 has been spent in the last 6 months.
The 2. 7-litre flat-six engine runs well and the manual gearbox makes this a particularly enjoyable example to drive. The car has covered approximately 134, 000 miles, so it should be viewed as an enthusiast-owned and regularly used example rather than a low-mileage garage queen.
As would be expected of a 26-year-old car of this mileage, there are some age-related marks and imperfections, but overall it remains a very presentable and usable example.
Overall, this is an appealing early Boxster in a rare colour, with the desirable 2. 7-litre engine and manual gearbox, and with significant expenditure already undertaken on some of the principal 986 maintenance items. It would make an excellent usable modern classic.
I bought this Boxster because I wanted an early 986 that I could actually use and enjoy, rather than a car that had spent its life being preserved purely for its mileage. What particularly attracted me to this example was the combination of the 2. 7-litre flat-six engine, manual gearbox and its unusual Rainforest Green Metallic paintwork.
The colour is probably my favourite thing about the car. Rainforest Green is a wonderfully period Porsche colour and changes considerably depending on the light, ranging from a deep green to an almost bronze tone. It gives the car much more character than the more commonly seen silver, black and blue examples.
The other attraction is simply the way it drives. The 986 is relatively small and light by modern standards, with beautifully weighted steering, a naturally aspirated flat-six immediately behind you and a manual gearbox. Even at ordinary road speeds it feels engaging in a way that many much newer and more powerful cars do not.
It has covered approximately 134, 000 miles and is not a concours or low-mileage garage queen. Instead, it is an honest, very usable 986 that has clearly been enjoyed throughout its life and has had important mechanical work carried out. For me, that is a large part of its appeal. It is a Boxster that can be driven and enjoyed without being afraid to put miles on it.
The car was serviced at Porsche Silverstone from new until 2013. It has then been serviced by independent garages intermittently. It has just had a major service carried out.
