Description

DUCATI 1299 PANIGALE R FINAL EDITION
No. 973/ 1299 | 740 miles | £29, 995

An exceptionally low-mileage example of Ducati’s farewell to its flagship big-bore V-twin Panigale era. Number 973 of just 1, 299 produced worldwide, presented in exceptional original cosmetic condition.

Recently purchased from a private collector who bought the motorcycle new, and carefully recommissioned by Ducati specialist Louigi Moto. Supplied with its original Certificate of Authenticity, book pack, both keys and retained original equipment.

Combining outstanding presentation, very low mileage and a desirable Ducati Performance specification, this is a particularly appealing example for a collector seeking a complete, carefully preserved motorcycle.

THE FINAL EDITION

The 1299 Panigale R Final Edition combines distinctive tricolour bodywork, red forged Marchesini wheels and an individually numbered top yoke with Ducati’s extraordinary 1, 285cc Superquadro V-twin.

The engine incorporates technology derived from the 1299 Superleggera, with a factory-rated output of approximately 209 hp in standard configuration. Fully adjustable Öhlins suspension and Brembo brakes are complemented by cornering ABS, Ducati Traction Control, Ducati Wheelie Control, Engine Brake Control and an up/ down quickshifter.

It represents a significant chapter in Ducati’s history: a numbered, commemorative expression of the large-capacity twin-cylinder superbike that preceded the flagship Panigale’s move to V4 power.

GENUINE DUCATI PERFORMANCE RACING UPGRADE

This motorcycle was fitted by Ducati from new with the complete titanium Akrapovič racing system developed specifically for the Final Edition, including the associated carbon lower panels.

Importantly, this is the optional Ducati Performance racing upgrade—not simply the standard titanium Akrapovič fitted to every FE, nor a pair of aftermarket slip-on silencers. It is a substantial, model-specific factory accessory package, delivering a distinctive appearance and an extraordinarily expressive Superquadro soundtrack.

The complete original road-homologated exhaust and retained components removed during installation accompany the motorcycle, as shown in the photographs. These have not been sold separately, preserving the ability to return the exhaust installation to standard specification. Both systems form part of the sale.

CONDITION AND SPECIALIST RECOMMISSIONING

With just 740 miles, the motorcycle is presented in exceptional original cosmetic condition. Full paint protection film helps preserve the finish, and a tracker is fitted.

Following its limited use and careful storage, the bike has covered approximately 200 gentle recommissioning miles and has recently been fully inspected and recommissioned by Ducati specialist Louigi Moto. Work included:

• Engine oil replacement.
• Brake and clutch fluid replacement.
• Brake-caliper strip and rebuild.
• A full motorcycle inspection.

The recent workshop invoice accompanies the existing service records, allowing a prospective buyer to review the work completed and the service chronology.

Detailed photographs show the bodywork, wheels, controls, exhaust installation, numbered yoke and accompanying equipment. This is offered as a carefully preserved, recently inspected example rather than simply an undisturbed display motorcycle.

DOCUMENTATION AND ACCOMPANYING EQUIPMENT

The sale includes:

• Original Ducati Certificate of Authenticity corresponding to No. 973/ 1299.
• Both original Ducati transponder ignition keys.
• Ducati handbook and book pack.
• Existing service documentation and the recent Louigi Moto invoice.
• All retained original parts and accessories shown in the photographs.

The motorcycle and its accompanying equipment are being offered together as one complete package.

For a collector seeking a very-low-mileage Final Edition, the combination of original presentation, retained equipment, recent specialist attention and the Ducati-fitted racing upgrade makes this a particularly attractive example.

What attracted me to the Final Edition

I bought the Final Edition because I wanted more than another fast motorcycle. I wanted something with genuine engineering significance, unmistakable character and a lasting place in Ducati’s history.

With only 1, 299 produced worldwide, it represents the closing chapter of Ducati’s flagship big-bore V-twin Panigale generation. The individually numbered yoke and Certificate of Authenticity make that history tangible: this is number 973, not simply a standard motorcycle wearing commemorative paintwork. (Ducati)

The engine is the centrepiece. Its 1, 285cc Superquadro incorporates technology from the 1299 Superleggera, including titanium connecting rods and valves, and produces approximately 209 hp in standard form. It is an extraordinary expression of the big Ducati twin: immense performance combined with a mechanical character quite different from a modern four-cylinder superbike. (Ducati)

Sound was a major part of why I chose this particular example. The genuine Ducati Performance full titanium Akrapovič race system, fitted by Ducati from new, gives it a wonderfully deep, percussive voice and a hard-edged racing bark. It is not simply about volume; it is the way the sound conveys the character of that enormous twin. Having the complete original road-homologated system retained alongside it was equally important to me.

Nor is the appeal confined to the engine. I particularly enjoy its light, precise handling: the way it responds to small inputs and follows a chosen line. There is something compelling about that combination of delicate steering and such substantial performance.

Bennetts BikeSocial’s road-and-track review described it as “light as a feather when flicking from side to side” and “a fitting tribute to the V-twin sportsbike era”—two observations that capture much of its appeal. (Bennetts BikeSocial Membership)

Then there is the pleasure of simply looking at it: the tricolour bodywork, red forged wheels and beautifully finished titanium. Finding such a low-mileage example, carefully preserved by the collector who bought it new, with its original equipment still together, was what made this particular motorcycle stand out.

For me, its attraction is the combination: a significant Ducati to preserve and admire, but also a remarkable engine and chassis to experience. There will always be newer motorcycles. This one represents a particular moment in Ducati history.
