Description
Just recommissioned following being in a private collection for 15 years, previous owner for 22 years. Very early build Biposto, frame number 000123. First month of production. Believed to be one of the ultra rare Varese Bipostos, Ducati are verifying, The first 600 Bipostos were built in Varese and then exported around Europe, this one has the import tags from France dated 1995, and the bike has the usual Varese early build signs such as all parts being stamped ‘94 or earlier. The headlight surround is 1993!The Singleseat Stradas were released in 1994, and the following year, 1995, were joined by the twin seat Bipostos. The first frames were sent to Varese as there was still a stock of parts, and built there until production moved back to Bologna after the factory reopened late 1994/ early 1995. That makes this one of the rarest production variants. Imported by Baines Racing Silverstone, in 1997 and has resided in the UK ever since. This bike has been sympathetically restored and only worn parts replaced such as chain guides, belts, brake pads, tyres and caliper overhaul. There were some missing parts such as original screen and some rivets missing from the fairing panels (early 916’s had rivets instead of nuts and bolts, but the rivets would drop out!) but the rivets have been changed with correct pattern parts. Lower fairing has a small 10 p sized crack but the piece has been reattached and barely noticeable. The engine has been refreshed and reshimmed as can be seen from the picture of the valves taken through the throttle body. The engine runs fantastically and pulls very strongly and has had the reg/ rectifier update and is charging at 14v. Fitted with Period Termignonis sounds fantastic but original mint standard cans supplied too. Priced accordingly to very good but not excellent condition, this very rare piece of Ducati history has some profit room for a serious restorer if restored to mint, but I prefer to see some age and originality. Massive documented history, original handbook, original extras brochure and 2 original CRD keys plus a spare. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to own this slice of Ducati history.
