1974 MGB GT V8 – Genuine Factory V8 – 50 Years’ Ownership – Bare-Metal Restored
A rare opportunity to acquire a genuine factory-built MGB GT V8 with exceptional long-term ownership and excellent provenance.
Manufactured in June 1974 and first registered on 28 February 1975, this car has been in the same ownership since May 1976 – over 50 years with its current owner.
Its authenticity is supported by a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certified Copy of the Factory Record, confirming chassis number G-D2D1/ 1820-G, original engine number 4860-1721, RHD Home Market specification and original Glacier White paintwork with Autumn Leaf trim. The factory record also confirms cast-alloy wheels and overdrive as factory-fitted equipment.
The car underwent a comprehensive bare-metal restoration in 2008 and the bodywork remains in superb condition. It drives extremely well, with the effortless performance and character you would expect from the factory V8.
Only approximately 1, 800 miles have been covered since restoration. Prior to being taken off the road in 1995, the car had covered approximately 60, 000 miles.
The car currently runs with a replacement V8 engine and drives incredibly well. Importantly, the almost complete original factory engine accompanies the car. This has been dismantled and the crankshaft reground; some ancillaries are currently fitted to the replacement engine. It therefore offers the next owner the opportunity to rebuild and reinstall the original matching engine if desired – a significant feature for a genuine factory V8 of this provenance.
The car presents extremely well, with particularly impressive bodywork following its restoration.
