Description

I’m passionate about keeping these cars on the road. I genuinely think the world is a slightly better place for still seeing – and hearing – the occasional Classic Saab 900 pass you by.

I’ve owned this car since 2020 and, of the Classic 900s I’ve owned, this is probably my favourite.

It is a 1992 Saab 900 S Low Pressure Turbo with intercooler, original Aero kit, three-spoke Saab alloys and approximately 198, 000 miles.

The car drives beautifully. The engine pulls strongly, the gearbox changes very well, the clutch works as it should and the brakes are good. It feels light, agile and very enjoyable to drive, and the Low Pressure Turbo is smooth and more than capable of keeping up with modern traffic.

During my ownership I have done what has been needed to keep the car mechanically and structurally sound. A considerable amount of welding was carried out last year, which was done because I wanted to preserve the car properly rather than simply move it on.

The car came to me with a substantial amount of history and paperwork. I should be clear that while I have continued to maintain it and have spent money on it where required, I have not been particularly good at keeping every receipt during my own ownership, so the bulk of the documented history predates me.

It has not been used very much over the last year and will be serviced before sale.

The interior is very presentable for its age and mileage. The grey cloth seats are generally in very good condition, with only minor wear to the driver’s seat. The rear seats are particularly good. The headlining is also good, with just a small amount of sagging towards the rear. The dashboard has the usual Classic 900 sun-related cracking.

The door cards are complete and presentable, although the fabric inserts could be tidied or retrimmed if desired.

I have fitted a quality modern Blaupunkt stereo chosen specifically because it suits the period look of the car while providing modern connectivity.

The electric sunroof works, the electric windows work, central locking works and the heating and heater fan work.

The instruments and additional gauges work, although the dashboard illumination is not working properly at present. The cigarette lighter works.

Known minor electrical faults are the heated rear window, which does not appear to work, the headlamp wipers, which are currently inoperative, and the electric aerial, which is up but not retracting. I have recently found a supplier in Germany for the headlamp-wiper parts if the next owner wishes to put them right.

There are two keys: one for the ignition and one for the doors.

Cosmetically, this is an honest 34-year-old car rather than a concours example. The red paint responds extremely well to cutting and polishing and presents very well once protected.

There is some bubbling along the top of the front arches, particularly around the crease above the Aero kit. There are a couple of blemishes on the bonnet from bird-lime damage, some slight bubbling on the driver side of the bonnet, and the painted sections of the bumpers have some cracking and flaking in places.

I have deliberately photographed these areas rather than try to disguise them.

If I were keeping the car, the arches, bonnet blemishes and bumper finish are the cosmetic jobs I would eventually address. As it stands, though, it remains a very presentable car that can simply be used and enjoyed.

The Saab three-spoke wheels present well and the tyres have plenty of tread, with one rear tyre recently replaced. The boot is clean and usable, the spare-wheel compartment is solid and the original spare wheel is still present.

I am selling simply because it is not getting used enough. Between work vehicles and my Mercedes W126, the Saab has spent too much time sitting.

I would much rather it went to someone who will use it, enjoy it and continue keeping it on the road.

It is not perfect, and I am not pretending it is. It is, however, an honest, handsome and very usable Classic 900 that looks great, sounds great and drives beautifully.

It is a car I genuinely love, and I would like the next owner to feel the same way about it.

Viewing is very welcome.
