A Bentley like they probably won't make again.
Produced in just 550 examples worldwide, the Brooklands is one of the rarest grand coupés in Bentley's recent history. Built at Crewe, it belongs to an era when a Bentley was still conceived as a motor car apart, without any real equivalent.
Beneath its enormous bonnet sits the legendary 6. 75-litre twin-turbocharged Bentley V8, developing 530 bhp but above all 1, 050 Nm of torque.
And it's probably that figure which best tells the story of the Brooklands.
In 2008, a Ferrari 599 GTB developed 608 Nm, a Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 660 Nm and a Mercedes SLR McLaren 780 Nm. With its 1, 050 Nm, the Brooklands entered territory then reserved for the most extraordinary motor cars on the planet – the Bugatti Veyron peaked at 1, 250 Nm.
But the Brooklands is not a supercar.
It's quite the opposite: an immense four-seat British coupé, crafted from leather, wood and metal, capable of moving over two tonnes in silence and with almost absurd ease. A motor car that doesn't seek to demonstrate its power: it simply has it permanently at its disposal.
This 2008 example has covered just 39, 900 km and has known only two owners.
The Brooklands is neither a Continental GT, nor simply an old Bentley that's become rare. It's one of the last expressions of the traditional grand Bentley coupé: outsized proportions, Crewe craftsmanship, 6. 75-litre V8, colossal torque and a presence you won't find in contemporary production.
