Built late 1960, this is one of the last ripple hood vans to roll off the manufacturing line and spent most of it’s life in southern France before being shipped to the UK in 2009. This lovely van, already a very sound example with a very straight loading bay, was completely stripped and repainted inside and out in its correct grey colour and rebuilt onto a new galvanised chassis by 2CV City in Sheffield for the present owner.
This particular example must be one of the best available in the country. It is not concours and has a paint bubble on the nearside wing and a couple of other blemishes but it is nonetheless incredibly well presented. There has been some additional work since the early restoration including new front brakes and cylinders, new tyres all round, new starter motor and a regular yearly service. It has always been garaged and kept dry and warm.
After 17 years of ownership it is time to pass it on for someone else to enjoy as much as I have.
Early 2CV vans, like this, are considered to be the most collectible because they were fitted with the original ‘ripple’ bonnet, ‘suicide’ front doors, rear doors with small lozenge windows and the thin ripples on the side of the van. This particular example must be one of the best available in the country.
