Description
After nearly 27 years of ownership, the time has come for me to sell my 300SL. It is a factory standard, original and correct (not modified) convertible that is easy to drive and handle. Every journey in this modern classic turns into an event, a bit of fun. It is an automotive personality and a refreshing antidote to all the "Screen On Wheels" on the roads today.
Under my stewardship the car has been regularly serviced and has undergone bodywork and remedial repair by two of the UK's best known R107 specialists, Chris Murphy of Gratt Motors and Steve Griffin of Merctec. In the earlier restoration, Chris at Gratt Motors restored and resprayed the car to near concours standard, also replacing the windscreen & rubber bumpers. In the latter restoration Steve at Merctec eradicated traces of corrosion in the bulkhead, the hidden bain of R107's. The heater blower, switch and relays were all replaced or sent for repair as was the starter motor. A genuine MB water pump was also fitted (not a much cheaper after market one). Various other things were replaced notably the front lower suspension arms and all the surrounding bushes. In addition to receipts there are pictures available of all the work conducted.
The interior is in its original state.
The brown mohair hood is the original one perfectly serviceable but one of the smaller perspex panes has a 3cm split where it has been creased. There are one or two other minor niggles (eg alloys) that in time would need addressing to pass the strictest of scrutiny but all in all it is right.
The car is kept in storage.
The private plate is not being sold.
I will add service documents and pictures of the repairs shortly.
