1987 Honda GL1200 Goldwing Interstate
Registered as a 1989. Imported from the Netherlands in 2016.
I bought this in summer and as usual spent a couple of months going through it and making sure everything was right. I am a serial buyer/ tinkerer/ rider/ seller.
I have ridden it for about 600 faultless miles since its MOT on the 17th of September. It rides incredibly well, fuels beautifully. Everything you'd expect for a very well looked after 80's Honda.
Work carried out by me in the last three months:
New Bridgestone tyres
Wheels cleaned inside and out. Bearings/ seals all good.
Calipers front and back rebuilt with new seal kits. Seal grooves and pistons cleaned and new DOT4.
Brand new EBC front discs and EVC organic pads front and back. Brakes working perfectly.
New Allballs headstock bearings and seals.
New fork seals and 7. 5wt fluid. Bushes checked all good.
Exhaust and headers removed and resealed with all new gaskets. Collector box painted and in very good order.
Fuel system checked and a cleaner run through it. Run on E5.
Prior to my ownership it had obviously been loved. There were new but worn tyres. Someone has done an alternator conversion and I was told changed the belts and also serviced all the oils and coolant etc. plus a recent battery.
Both keys fit all the locks (and there are many) and it comes with a genuine Honda workshop manual and some history.
Left to do: re install the stereo and speakers which I removed during its refurb but come with the bike. Also with the bike the original hard wired intercom and heated grips.
The 4 tiny TRAC gaitors had disintegrated so I packed the mechanism with grease. These are available but I guess only necessary with winter use.
The rear silencer tail pipe has been repaired but done well and could be left indefinitely I think. The front screen badge is missing. Paint missing from the rear panel as pictured. Someone has glued a badge to the fuel flap which has fallen off but the glue remains. One centre spring is missing but operates fine. Stereo blanking plate missing. The top box has been repaired in the past. There will be a few other little bits no doubt. Inspection very welcome.
I'm having to rebuild my workshop and this is too big to get in my house so it's up for sale.
