Description
Lotus Elise S1 1999
The time has come to sell my Elise. I've owned the car since 2014, and in that time it has been totally refurbished. It's virtually a new car, with all components being replaced with new parts. These include: a new twin fan radiator, heater matrix, starter motor, alternator, stainless engine bay water pipes, silicon hoses, as well as all of the suspension being refreshed, with every bush and ball joint being replaced. I've also fitted a new, heated front windscreen. In addition, I've also put in a radiator override fan switch, just in case. The steering rack has been refurbished, a horrible job to do! I have also refurbished the fuel tank, fitted a new fuel pump and an inertia switch. It also has a Hurricane air intake to a 52mm throttle body. There will be other new items fitted which I cannot recall at the moment. The engine has been changed to a 160BHP VVC unit, but it also comes with the original engine, which is also in good condition, but requires a new inlet manifold gasket just in case you want to do a matching numbers car; but it doesn't bother me. I've soundproofed and thermally insulated the firewall. A new radio aerial has been fitted, which is DAB and GPS compatible, I'm intending to fit one of the head units with a screen, just to give the car some creature comforts.
The chassis is corrosion free, straight and true with no accident damage. The car has obviously been garaged for all of its 27 years of life.
The car is not original - it has S2 seats and S2 wheels fitted, although it doesn't worry me as I consider the car better than the original. It also has a hardtop and a proper hardtop bag. The only fault with the car now is that the rev counter is a bit dodgy, but I will have that refurbished when the car comes off the road at the end of the summer.
Why am I selling this wonderful car? Well, I'm 78 next birthday and the arthritis is winning, making it difficult to get in and out of the car. But you would be purchasing a car that should be trouble free in years to come.
The car is located in Newcastle upon Tyne.
I have owned the car since 2014 and have spent many hours working on the car. The car has been totally refurbished and should give many years of reliable motoring.
The car has been extensively refurbished and should provide years of trouble free motoring.
