Description
Up for sale is my 1978 Plymouth Fury Sport 2 Door. I imported this from Georgia earlier in the year as a non runner, as a quick project to get back on the road and use for the colder months. For me it is perfect as I wanted something with some patina to use when the weather turns!
I am in no rush to sell the Plymouth as I am enjoying using it as my other projects are tucked away for the winter.
To get it drivable when I imported it there were a few broken wires in the engine bay preventing it from running which were repaired. Then the distributor, leads and plugs were replaced. The brake pedal went to the floor so the brake master cylinder is new too.
The engine is a LA 318 and runs well, as always with most classics I think it would benefit from a tune up at a specialist. It has a straight through exhaust which is a bit loud but does the job for now.
The gearbox is lovely and smooth but does seem to change up the gears a bit quick but this hasn’t bothered me as I’ve used the column to shift down to 2nd gear when needed.
I’ve found it to be very acceptable on fuel compared to other American cars I own. It has the small standard Chrysler ‘lean burn’ carburettor set up.
The exterior patina looks good in my opinion, it obviously spent a long time parked in the Georgia sun. If you wanted to turn it into a showroom car you would want to replace the vinyl top. At some point in its life somebody fitted wheel spacers and the Chevrolet rally wheels.
The interior is very good, no rips or tears to the fabric and very comfortable. I am writing this now after driving for a nice cruise to Cotswold airport cafe and back!
There are a few things to iron out which I may get around to as I carry on using it, but at present the fuel gauge and temperature gauge do not work and neither do the wipers.
I haven’t seen any other Fury’s of this shape for sale in the UK so I can’t imagine there any many. I have seen a couple of cop car 4 doors but not any coupes like this one.
I’ve listed the price as what it’s worth to me as it is a nice comfortable cruiser, which with a little work could be an exceptional car, which if it’s still with me next summer I will begin working on when I get my other cars out to drive!
This Fury Sport stands out anywhere I have taken it as it differs from the usual Chargers, Mustangs and muscle cars you see, but doesn’t quite fall into the category of the larger cruisers like the Cadillacs and Lincolns. It’s a bit of a midway point between a muscle car and a luxury cruiser.
This car was in Georgia when I found it but there are a few window stickers and bumper stickers which may tell stories that the car has been in Minnesota, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
