Description
For sale is my 1975 Land Rover Series 3 which has covered a mere 47212 miles from new. This mileage is backed up by an extensive history which I have categorised and filed in two folders!
History File:
The history file on this vehicle has to be one of the best I have ever come across for a Series Land Rover. The Land Rover comes with the original British Leyland Service passport which details the dealership where the vehicle was originally delivered to. Along side this are dealer service stamps where the Land Rover was serviced at British Leyland approved service centres for the first 11 years of operation. As well as this the Land Rover comes with the original Owners pack (very rare) with all the original leaflets, owners manual and even a Rover club leaflet. There is a vast number of MOT’s, service receipts, repair bills and parts receipts which carry through to today. It’s exactly the kind of history you look for in a classic vehicle!
Condition:
The Land Rover is of the condition that most would like to see. It has that patina look which only time can create. As to be expected there are a number of age related marks and dings but for a vehicle which is 51 years old it is doing very well. In recent years it had 3 new deluxe front seats which are in fantastic condition and are very comfortable. The dashboard which is the early deep series 3 dashboard is in incredible condition. The dashboard top has one small split on the passenger side. The rest, however is in fantastic condition considering most of the dashboard tops on these vehicles are either heavily damaged or have been replaced. The chassis is the original one. It has had repairs over the years and will need some small patches in a few areas but again for the age it is in brilliant condition. From what I can tell the rear crossmember is the original one as there are no signs of repairs that I can see from a replacement one. The rear sliding windows are in perfect working condition, they have both been subjected to a full overhaul which included new seals and channels. In the rear of the tub are the original galvanised folding bench seats (very rare) which have replacement seat foams and covers on. They really do look the part and make the Land Rover more desirable with the added benefit of carrying extra passengers.
Engine & Gearbox
The engine in this Land Rover starts on the button and runs very sweet. It ticks over nicely and is very quiet when idling. I have put nearly 2000 miles on the Land Rover since I have owned it and in that time it has never let me down. It cruises at 60mph on the motorway and that’s without an overdrive. It seems very happy at that speed. The gearbox and transmission related components are all working as they should. The Land Rover goes through the gears nicely and picks up very well. You can tell this Land Rover has been very well maintained over the years.
Electrical: Everything electrical works very well in this vehicle. The lights, the heater (which is surprisingly very good) dashboard lights, horn, wipers all working as they should.
Overall, this is a fantastic early Land Rover Series 3 that will make the next owner very happy. There is room for improvement but it is more than useable and ready to enjoy as it is. With everything working as it should it really is a nice Land Rover to drive and it will be sad to see it go.
