with genuine regret as I’m a genuine enthusiast of coachbuilt cars I’m going to move the infamous Mercedes diesel hearse on. Shame as had a change of owners too many times recently . Was once in service in her green livery and the funeral directors professionally fitted a 90’s bomb proof non turbo 3000cc Merc e class diesel engine which runs like a sewing machine. Mated to the original auto box. Starts instantly. No smoke. Pleasure to drive. A lot of work done on suspension and welding and mechanicals by previous owner costing quite a few thousand. I’ve removed perished roof. Replaced timber and fitted new rubber roof. Also stripped lower tailgate and repaired. My next step was to consider her aesthetically. Black , green , grey etc etc. the green paint is presentable but photos look way better. Normal ds body filler here and there (not to bad ) few scrapes and dents. But make a cracking vehicle. Chrome superb. Rear centre deck is missing. I was going to make one or modify one from something else. Not difficult. Floorpans etc brilliant. Front seats recovered but not to my taste. Everything works inc both tanks. Now has correct still rims fitted (see one of the pics. Awful jag alloys gone !!I’ve got to be realistic I have a lot of prewar very early cars around me. Buying two very recently needing work has changed my plans for my time over the winter. Poor old hearse looses out. Appreciate not many folk after something like this. Definitely want it to go to good home who keep her as a hearse fundamentally. there’s not a lot left of this model at all!!. Before I move to my storage and do next winter. .
