Description
Barn find project
Appears to be complete, but needs significant work
Engine turns freely and the car rolls.
Chassis has surface rust, but appears remarkably good for a 53 year old car.
Has been welded on nearside outriggers, but otherwise appears to be sound.
Wheels have been refurbished and fitted with usable tyres with good tread.
Body is fibreglass and is sound, but needs minor repairs to the scuttle and rear valance.
The paint finish is poor, but being fibreglass the paint is only cosmetic.
The interior is original and largely good. It requires the drivers seat re-webbing and carpets replacing
Remember, it is a non-runner and will need to be trailered away.
The car was purchased new in Leicester in 1973
Later, it passed through the hands of Raj Motors, at the time a Reliant dealer in Leicester.
It was last on the road in September 1988.
I purchased the Rebel in 1992. My intention was a rapid re-commission. Unfortunately, the arrival of children and work pressures meant the re-commission never happened
I briefly had it running and driving in 1992, so at that point it was drivable.
I have not attempted to start or run it since.
Over the last 34 years, the Rebel has followed me around, always stored undercover in barns etc., until now, when I have decided it is time to sell.
It would make an interesting project for someone.
A few years ago, someone suggested to me that if painted yellow it would almost look like a 4 wheeled "Trotters" van!
Of course, it was largely based on the Regal Supervan, so the idea is not completely crazy.
So, whoever buys it can explore all the options.
It does need work, but at least having a fibreglass body avoids the mammoth welding work needed on most 60's and 70's cars.
The Reliant Rebel Estate is very rare. It was made in small numbers from 1967 until May 1974. The numbers produced were always small, largely because Reliant had limited production facilities in
Tamworth and usually prioritised the manufacture of Regal, Robin and Bug three-wheelers.
It is fitted with the Reliant 750cc engine as used in the Robin.
