This is an incredibly rare Jaguar XKR Pre-production Prototype within the lowest tax band (£360), specified with virtually every available factory option at the time, making it a truly special and collectible example. It comes with a bulletproof 4. 2 v8 that has been serviced at Jaguar and independent specialists all its life with no expense spared.
I’ve owned the car for the past year and it has never let me down. It remains a stunning example that drives exactly as it should and attracts lots of attention wherever it goes. This Jaguar XKR X150 is a truly beautiful car. It has the rare ability to look like it’s doing 100 mph even when it’s standing still, and once you’re behind the wheel, the experience more than lives up to the looks.
The V8 has seemingly endless power and, paired with the sharp-shifting ZF 6-speed automatic, makes for an incredibly addictive combination. Despite being a large GT car, the XKR handles remarkably well, while remaining superbly comfortable and effortless on long journeys. It’s the sort of car that simply swallows up the miles.
Unlike many examples that have spent their lives tucked away as garage queens, this car has actually been used for what it was built for: covering miles in comfort and style. Despite the mileage, it remains in pristine condition overall, with only the expected age-related scuffs and marks. More importantly, it certainly doesn’t drive like a car with this mileage.
It’s also surprisingly economical for a supercharged V8 GT. On longer road trips I’ve regularly been achieving around 30–35 mpg, making it a very usable long-distance car as well as a genuine performance machine.
The XKR is a stunning car and a real head-turner, combining effortless performance, superb comfort and that wonderful V8 soundtrack. There’s something particularly satisfying about a smooth V8, a responsive ZF6 gearbox and a car that feels engineered to last rather than built to be replaced in a few years.
A fantastic GT that has been enjoyed as intended, rather than simply stored away. An addictive, characterful and increasingly special Jaguar.
