Description
Really lovely and original example of a 1. 6 GTI purchased from a well regarded classic car dealer last year. As seen in the photos, the car is in excellent rust free condition and even has all the original glass as seen with the registration etchings, which corresponds to the low mileage and careful, fastidious ownership. I was proud to win 'best classic' at a popular local car meet!!
This example has a good history and is in great mechanical shape with lots of recent servicing (last service 2nd Nov 2026 in preparation for sale) and recent spend amounting to thousands including:
Bilstein dampers (2023)
Milltek exhaust system (2023)
Cambelt/ water pump (2024)
Oil pump (2026)
Replacement coolant hoses and system flush (2026)
Rear drum brake overhaul (2025)
Exhaust manifold repair (2025)
Vehicle registered: 22/ 06/ 1988
I bought this 205 GTI to scratch an itch and experience arguably the greatest hot hatch ever built. I chose the 1. 6 version due to its revvier, more urgent nature vs the 1. 9 and its lower price point vs the 1. 9.
I bought this specific example based on overall excellent aesthetic and mechanical condition vs other tired examples I had viewed. It has been a pleasure to own and gets such a great reaction from the general public whenever i'm out in it. Almost everyone has 'had a mate that used to own one of those back in the 90s'!!
I have got what i wanted from the experience and having had my first child since buying the 205, its just the right time for me to pass it onto another enthusiast who will continue to look after it.
